New staff at St Johns


On Monday, St John’s College welcomed two new staff members to its team.

Ms Remy Bamford is the newly appointed Marketing Manager and Ms Melissa Van der Westhuizen is the new Executive Assistant/Reception Officer.

Remy Bamford

Originally from Sydney, Remy completed her Certificate IV in Public Relations at Sydney Institute of Technology before moving to Brisbane to undertake a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) at QUT. 

Remy is a creative and highly skilled marketing and communications professional with experience in both an educational and corporate setting.  Starting out as a Marketing Executive for EMI Music in London, Remy returned to Australia to work for a boutique Brisbane based law firm where she created the profile of their brand and establish their marketing strategy.  Her most recent employment was as both Marketing Manager and then Director of Communications at the Springfield Anglican College. During her four years’ tenure at TSAC, she successfully rebranded and developed an integrated marketing strategy to increase brand awareness and increase enrolments which translated to a growth rate of 13% up from 4%.  

In this new and exciting role at St John’s, Remy will prepare and implement a marketing and communication plan aligned with the College’s strategic Plan to ensure that the College attracts and maintains a strong, vibrant and diverse student community.  Remy will develop a full suite of marketing collateral, including leading the development of a new website and prospectus.  We are also excited to roll out a digital and social media marketing strategy.

Remy has a strong capacity to build and maintain relationships and develop key partnerships that produce positive outcomes.  Her experience and understanding of both the education sector, the College’s values and the Anglican ethos, Remy is a welcome addition to the St John’s staff.

Melissa Van der Westhuizen

Melissa has lived the majority of her life in Queensland after moving from South Africa as a child.  She holds a Bachelor of Psychology from Griffith University and has recently returned from working in London as a Deputy Accommodation Manager in the student housing sector. 

Prior to this she had various roles at Jetstar Airways, as a Team Leader and acting Manager.  She understands customer service and is passionate about building relationships with colleagues and customers and puts people at ease with her friendly, warm and understanding manner.

Melissa brings a high level of professionalism to this role and her experience in both customer service and student accommodation will see her contribute effectively to our administrative support team as well as provide efficient and effective service to students, parents and all stakeholders. 

In other news, Dianna Fitzgerald has been appointed to the position of Registrar, focusing on admissions and providing support to the Director of College Experience and our Director of Academic and Career Advancement, the Rev’d Dr Ceri Wynne.
