In May, St John’s College hosted The Peter Carnley Scholarship Dinner, bringing together Old Johnians, friends and supporters to celebrate a growing community of donors committed to widening access to the St John’s experience.
Warden Rose Alwyn spoke powerfully about the culture we strive to build, one of excellence, wellbeing, service and friendship, and reminded us that in today’s world, trust is earned not through power, but through compassion. “At a time when trust in public institutions is being tested, a scholarship like this says something important: not just what St John’s is good at, but what it is good for.”
Sincere thanks to David Muir AM and Greg O'Meara and Student Club President, Sam Crook for their thoughtful words and their enduring support of the College and its mission.
The Peter Carnley Scholarship will support a student from rural or regional Australia facing financial hardship, every year, in perpetuity — a lasting tribute to former Warden, The Most Reverend Dr Peter Carnley AC, and his legacy of compassion, intellectual leadership, and commitment to widening opportunity.
