St John's welcomes applications from students who are currently enrolled or intend to enrol at the University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology and the Griffith University Conservatorium of Music.
Applications for new students are accepted starting in April for commencement in February of the following year. Prospective students can apply online through the St John's College application portal via our website. Successful applicants are invited to an interview where we aim to learn more about them and their interest in living in a residential community. For students unable to attend an interview in person, online interviews are available.
2025 Applications - applications submitted from 1 November will automatically be placed on our waitlist, you will only progress to interview should places become available. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
Application Process

1. Prepare
Compile the following documents:
- List of Leadership positions (if any)
- List of cultural and sporting activities you participate in, and the level in which you participate
- Please upload a video telling us a little about yourself and why you would like to live at John's. The video must not exceed, 2 minutes and 15 seconds and be no larger than 4MB. If you have any issues uploading your video can you please send it in via email to admissions@stjohns.uq.edu.au
- Photo- a recent passport-sized photograph (head and shoulders only please)
- Academic documentation including:
- Latest school transcript or if you have commenced an undergraduate degree your most current transcript
- OP/ATAR/equivalent (if available)
- Letter of offer from a university (if available)
2. Apply
- Register your details on our website.
- Complete the online application form
- Upload the documents listed above.
- Pay the $132 (inc GST) non-refundable application fee.
3. Interview
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview either via Zoom or in person at the College.
4. Outcome
Limited first round offers will be extended to successful candidates in June. Further offer rounds will be in August, October and December. If you receive an offer, you have 10 days to accept, decline or defer your place.
Offers are dependent on being accepted into a degree UQ, QUT or the Conservatorium of Music at Griffith University.
