Scholarships & Bursaries

Scholarship applications for 2026 have now closed. For more information, please contact scholarships@stjohns.uq.edu.au

At St John’s College, we believe that financial circumstances should never be a barrier to opportunity. Our scholarships are designed to attract and support exceptional students from diverse backgrounds, ensuring they have access to the transformative experience of collegiate life.

Nearly one-third of our residents receive financial assistance, reflecting our strong commitment to diversity and inclusion. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, academic excellence, leadership, and other contributions to the College community. More than just financial aid, they provide students with the opportunity to thrive in a dynamic, supportive environment that fosters academic achievement, personal growth, and lifelong connections.

Scholarships at St John’s are reviewed annually and are intended to help students complete their studies without financial hardship. While they recognise achievement, they also uphold our core values of equity and opportunity, ensuring that talented students can fully engage in collegiate life. Please note that St John’s College does not award scholarships for mid-year (Semester 2) entry.

Who Can Apply

St John’s welcomes scholarship applications from all prospective residents. We highlight that bursaries are available when potential residents can show financial disadvantage is a carrier to college life.

We are committed to ensuring that First Nations students are well represented and supported in their pursuit of higher education. Our residential college offers a vibrant and inclusive community where students from all backgrounds are welcomed.

In particular, we are proud to support First Nations students through initiatives like the Joe Croft Indigenous Award. Named after an Old Johnian who was the first Aboriginal student to attend an Australian university, the award supports First Nations future or current students who attend The University of Queensland.

St John's College acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands on which we live and learn, the Turrbal and Jagera peoples, and pay our respects to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge their ongoing spiritual and cultural connections to land, community and to Maiwar, the Brisbane River, on which our College now stands. We appreciate and value the interconnection of all First Nations people who visit this place.
