Employability and Career Services

For those looking to join the workforce upon graduation, St John’s College provides essential support in developing careers and employability skills.

Students in our Employability Program

Most St John’s students complete at least one work placement during their time at College. Many are employed casually, complete internships, and/or take on part-time or contract roles at various times. Our career specialists offer support and guidance regardless of the industry or type of employment experience sought.

Employability Workshops and Resources

During the semester, weekly workshops are held on a wide variety of topics related to the job search and application process. Some of the most popular sessions address:

  • Resume and cover letter writing
  • Developing a LinkedIn profile
  • Interview preparation and mock interviews
  • Networking 101

In addition to small group workshops, there is an online bank of resources developed by the careers and employability team here at St John’s. All students have access to helpful how-to guides, videos that include step-by-step guidance and demonstrations, and much more.

See the LinkedIn Essentials guide that complements our LinkedIn workshops.

Students are also welcome to meet with the Dean of Careers and Admissions for individual consultations to get personalised feedback. Regularly scheduled consult hours are held weekly during which time students can drop in an ask to have their resume edited, talk about career paths, or address any topic of interest to them. Students may also request a consultation time by appointment at any time.

Job Postings and Internship Directory

With nearly 3,000 Old Johnians around the globe, and countless partners within the community, we are frequently contacted by employers interested in hiring our students.

In addition to monitoring and advertising information about formal work placement programs, students are notified of upcoming openings, job opportunities, and internships regularly through our internal communications channels.

Students interested in flexible work experience opportunities may consider Forage and similar programs.
