We welcome conferences, seminars, workshops, dinners, cocktail events and other social and business functions. During the summer university holidays we also offer college accommodation and full dining facilities (mid-November through to the end of January).

During the summer university holidays (mid-November to the end of January), we also offer comfortable accommodation and full dining services. With well-appointed rooms and a selection of delicious meals, we provide a relaxing and convenient stay for conference or guests just visiting the area.

Nestled in St Lucia and just across the road from The University of Queensland, St John’s College is ideally located for those visiting UQ. Our campus is well-connected to Brisbane’s public transport network, with bus and ferry terminals only a short walk away, making it easy for your guests to get around and explore the city.

Established in 1911, St John’s College has a rich tradition of fostering academic, cultural, and social growth within a lively community. Our welcoming and inspiring campus offers the perfect backdrop for any occasion, blending heritage with modern amenities.

St John’s College is known for its beautiful grounds and open green spaces, providing a peaceful escape in the heart of campus. The Courtyard Gardens are a favorite spot for students and guests to relax, while the Chapel Lawn, shaded by Jacaranda trees, is perfect for sitting back or kicking a football around. These popular outdoor areas add to the charm of St John’s, offering plenty of space to unwind and enjoy the surroundings.

More Information and Prices

St John’s College provides accommodation for up to 300 guests with a variety of room options. Accommodation is only available during the summer university holidays, typically from mid-November to end of January.

Types of Rooms Available

Linen and bath towels are not included in the listed prices, these can be provided at an additional cost. Onsite meals can be provided for an additional cost. See our catering section below for more details.

Dorm style with shared facilities - $90 per night

Approximately 200 single-occupancy standard rooms, these are traditional dorm style with rooms on both sides of a corridor and shared toilet amenities. Each standard room contains a bed, desk, wardrobe, fan and lamp.

Dorm style with ensuite - $95 per night

Ensuite bathrooms are typically shared between two students and connect the bedrooms. The rooms themselves are almost identical to standard rooms, with the same furniture provided.

Apartment style room with private ensuite - $120 per night

Two bedroom apartments with private ensuites are available but are very limited. They include a queen bed, bar fridge, desk and shelving, private ensuite bathroom and a shared common area.

The following spaces are available for hire throughout the year. More spaces such as our Dining Hall and Junior Common Room are available during the winter and summer university holidays.

St John’s College Chapel is available for hire for both religious and non-religious events, offering a serene and inspiring setting. As a consecrated Anglican chapel, it serves as a place of worship for students, staff, and the wider community under the guidance of our College Chaplain.

With its beautiful hand crafted pipe organ, abundant  natural light, and seating for over 200 guests, the Chapel is a sought-after venue for creative performances, rehearsals, community gatherings, lectures, and informal meetings. Its rich history and beautiful ambiance make it a truly unique space for meaningful events.

  • Non-religious services are based on room use only.
  • A refundable $100 cleaning deposit is required.

Founders’ Room

The Founders’ Room is a stylish and adaptable venue, perfect for intimate dinners, workshops, seminars, and meetings. Designed to accommodate both in-person and hybrid events, the space features a wall-mounted TV with computer connectivity, high-speed Wi-Fi, and seamless hybrid meeting capabilities.

Ideal for catered conferences and networking events, the room opens onto a sunlit courtyard, an inviting space for outdoor breaks. The Founders’ Room comfortably seats up to 45 guests for formal events and can host up to 100 guests in a cocktail-style setting.

Valmai Pidgeon Room

This intimate, well-appointed room is perfect for meetings, brainstorming sessions, and breakout discussions. Designed for both comfort and productivity, it features plush couches for relaxed conversations and a sleek boardroom table that seats up to 10 guests.

Equipped with a wall-mounted TV offering seamless wireless connectivity, the space is ideal for hybrid meetings, ensuring smooth collaboration between in-person and remote participants.

Chartwells is the onsite catering provider at St John’s College, they are specialists in providing catering and hospitality services in the education sector.

Chartwells offers a variety of different catering options from platters to three course meals, they are able to work within your budget and provide high quality food and service.

For events booked at St John’s College, Chartwells will provide a custom quote to meet your needs.

For those booking accommodation, dining packages are available and can include the following:

  • Breakfast with hot options served buffet style or a continental breakfast
  • Lunch with hot options served buffet style
  • Dinner served buffet style or plated.
  • Packed lunch, morning tea and afternoon tea options.
