Dining hall etiquette here at John’s is really unique. Phones aren’t allowed; students drop their phones on the bench as soon as they enter the dining hall. This means we aren’t distracted by technology and we talk to one another. Also, you fill the next seat. Since you automatically sit at the next available seat, you never have to worry about finding a friend to go to meals with. And you are always sitting with new people. You get to know people on different sports teams or studying a major you know nothing about. Or they might be living in another block. The dining hall etiquette means you talk to people you might not otherwise know well.

Piran is in the Electrical Engineering Integrated Bachelor/ Master’s program. The last three semesters of her course will be spent at The Technical University of Munich in Germany.

Outside the classroom, Piran stays busy doing a variety of activities. She tutors, serves as the St John’s Choir Lead, and is a host for the UQ graduation ceremonies team. Piran also participated in the World’s Greatest Shave (pictured here) to raise money for blood cancer.

Though Piran doesn’t plan to pursue a career in events, she enjoys interacting with people and helping to organise and executive many of the events that take place at College. St John’s College holds multiple events throughout the year, including the International Women’s Day breakfast, Academic and Professional dinner, National Reconciliation Week lunch, several reunion events, and alumni-student networking nights.
