 culture review at St John's

The Chair of St John’s College Council, Mr John Peden QC, has announced that the College has engaged nationally respected governance consultant, Ms Elizabeth Jameson AM, and culture and corporate educator, Dr Christina Turner, to conduct a forward-looking review of College culture, including consultation with students and other key St John’s stakeholders.

Mr Peden said the review will focus on respect, safety and inclusion and is intended to help identify the preferred attributes of a strong positive culture for St John’s.

“Whilst the Warden has led the planning for this consultation over the last 18 months, the review is timely, given the concerns in the community around practices and traditions in colleges, and in workplace culture more broadly.”

“St John’s wishes to retain its pre-eminent position amongst colleges in Queensland and we are pleased to be the first college to undertake this type of review.”

The Warden, Rose Alwyn, said the review built on previous initiatives focused on supporting students’ wellbeing.

“We are committed to ensuring all our students feel safe, respected and included, and to offer the best college experience for all students,” Ms Alwyn said.

A report will be published that forms the basis for agreeing the desired culture for today and into the future at St John’s College. This will include reporting on what areas require improvement to better reflect the College’s values and community expectations.
