Paul Summers is the Director for Japan and Korea at Tourism and Events Queensland. With a career spanning over two decades in tourism and an earlier chapter in global wine and spirits, Paul has built a remarkable life and career abroad. Based in Tokyo for more than 20 years, he continues to champion Queensland’s presence on the international stage.

This year’s National Reconciliation Week theme, Bridging Now to Next, invited us to reflect not only on the past but on the shared future we’re building together. For the St John’s College community, the 2025 Reconciliation Week Lunch provided an opportunity to honour this spirit through conversation, learning, and deep listening.
In May, St John’s College hosted The Peter Carnley Scholarship Dinner, bringing together Old Johnians, friends and supporters to celebrate a growing community of donors committed to widening access to the St John’s experience.

On my 19th birthday, Sunday 17 February 1974, the day before O’Week, I presented at the front door of Goodbury. With little other than a passion for reading history, I was not to know this would be the embarkation point for a transformative life shaping journey.
On Friday morning, we had the privilege of hosting breakfast with neighbouring The University of Queensland colleges St Leo's College within The University of Queensland, Cromwell College - The University of Queensland, Emmanuel College, UQ, King's College, UQ and our wider Johnian community in celebration of International Women's Day.
Emeritus Professor Ainslie Glenister Ross Sheil AO (51-55), has been awarded the prestigious UQ College Alumni of the Year Award.
Our alumni continue to make their mark both locally and across the globe. Some have been recognised more publicly, such as Professor George Mellick as UQ’s Alumnus of the Year and Dr Glen Richards, a recipient of the Vice Chancellor’s Distinguished Alumni award.
