Welcome to Rev'd Samuel Dow

We are delighted to welcome Rev’d Samuel Dow as our new chaplain and part of our wellbeing team at St John’s.

Samuel has a working knowledge of colleges gained through his role as Chaplain at Trinity College, the University of Melbourne, where he was an integral part of their wellbeing team, developing modes of student support.  Samuel is passionate about community and the importance of conversation in getting to know and understand all people for who they are and what is important to them on their life’s journey.

In addition to his work with supporting and facilitating student wellbeing initiatives here at the College, Samuel will be developing our sense of Anglican identity through the life of the chapel, community prayer and liturgies, and in creating forums for theological and spiritual enquiry.

Samuel has tertiary qualifications in Theology and Pastoral Care as well as a Bachelor of horticultural science from the University of Technology in Sydney.  The latter degree and experience have been significant in his founding and management of ‘Baroona Farm’, an urban agriculture project located in Milton (Brisbane/Meanjin) on the site of St Francis Theological College.  This project is set to increase in size and output over the coming years and we look forward to how our student community may get involved in this social justice initiative.

Samuel grew up in Sydney and has spent time living and working in Tasmania, Canberra, Northern Rivers NSW and MelbourneIn his spare time Samuel enjoys spending time with his two daughters Amélie (7) and Ellie (5), pictured here, and riding and working on his café racer motorcycle, and working on his home and gardens.
