The total value of the awards must not equal more than a students’s College fees in any semester.

Most awards cover a percentage of the base accommodation fees for the year or a semester, depending on the honour.

Scholarship recipients agree to the conditions in writing and fulfil the following responsibilities:

  • Contribute positively to College activities.
  • Inform St John’s of any changes to their enrolment.
  • Provide consent for the College to feature their story or name within its promotional material.
  • Be available for the presentation of awards at the College’s annual Academic and Professional Dinner and at any additional functions including, but not limited to, the Founders and Benefactors’ Chapel Service and the Foundation Welcome Function.
  • Submit a one-page report to the Warden at the end of each year, summarising the impact of the award. This document may be used by the Foundation or the College for fundraising or other promotional purposes.

Who Can Apply

We welcome award applications from all prospective residents. We highlight that bursaries are available when potential residents can show financial disadvantage is a carrier to College life.

We also welcome applications from First Nations Australians. One of our most prestigious awards is the Joe Croft Indigenous Award, named after the Old Johnian who was the first Aboriginal student to attend an Australian university. The award supports First Nations future or current students who attend The University of Queensland.
